Canada`s recent decision to withdraw from the Kyoto protocol is just an another example of the Conservative government siding with big oil companies and letting down millions of young Canadians, while also compromising their future,’’ said Isabelle Morin.
The whole world knows we must find concrete solutions to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). But what do the Conservatives do? They pull out of Kyoto! This move proves they have no plan to attack climate change, no plan to improve the quality of our environment and no plan to create jobs in the new green energy economy.
Official Opposition Deputy Critic for the Environment and MP for Rivière-des-Mille-Îles, Laurin Liu, strongly oppose the Conservatives’ devastating approach to environmental issues. “Under this government, Canada is falling behind the international community on action against climate change, which is damaging to our environment and our economy.”
The NDP already tabled the Climate Change Accountability Act, which sets achievable targets based on scientific research – an 80% reduction of GHG emissions below 1990 levels by 2050.
