Neighbourliness in Lachine, it’s everyone’s business!
Neighbourliness is, first and foremost, a question of civility and respect. A few citizens’ rudeness is often enough to fuel several complaints filed at the Bureau du citoyen of Lachine.
By embracing some simple principles, you can help us continue to provide you with a pleasant, clean and safe living environment which is, after all, the reason why many Lachine residents have chosen our Arrondissement (borough).

In summer, everyone’s windows are open. Choose an appropriate time to mow the lawn: avoid mealtimes or early mornings. Consider installing your heat pump, your pool filter or your airconditioner in an area where they are less likely to inconvenience your neighbours and equip these machines with timers – you will conserve energy, too!

Remember that using an outdoor fireplace is prohibited everywhere in Lachine. Due to the proximity of trees and other houses, the use of outdoor fireplaces could be dangerous for your safety and for your neighbours.

Also, make sure you verify borough by-laws about pesticides. Since 2004, it is forbidden to use pesticides outdoors except to control an infestation of insects. You may need to get a temporary permit. The borough encourages you to find other ways.

Reducing speed on our streets allows Lachine’s families to enjoy a better quality of life. This summer, slow down around our parks and watch out for our children: they are in a hurry to go play outside! Respect the Highway Safety Code at all times and yield to pedestrians using white or yellow-striped crosswalks.

When walking your dog, please pick up its droppings and keep it in control at all times. In doing so, you will reassure fearful passer-bys, steer clear of runners and strollers and prevent confrontations with other animals. Remember, dog parks are not litter boxes!

Respect the street furniture. It is available to all but no one can enjoy it if it is in poor condition, dirty or overed in graffiti. Throw out your trash and take recyclable containers to a separate collection bin.

Neighbourliness is everyone’s business!
