Cramatorium: Dorval prepares regulation
Given the worries expressed by residents about the crematorium as part of the expansion project of the J.J. Cardinal Funeral Residence Group, the City of Dorval municipal council filed a motion leading to the adoption of a specific regulation.
Following question period in which residents came to express their dissatisfaction about the fait accompli of the crematorium being constructed, the seven Dorval municipal officials proceeded with all agenda items during the May 26 meeting and filed a motion with a view to drafting a municipal regulation to the effect that “any new crematorium project must be constructed only in industrial zones.” The motion was filed by Councillor Robert Bourbeau and supported by Claude Valiquet.
The project of the J.J. Cardinal Funeral Residence involves an investment of more than a million dollars to expand their facility located in Bord-du-Lac, Dorval, which will include a chapel and columbarium. The project is expected to be completed at the end of August.
Dorval Mayor Edgar Rouleau reiterated his position that he wants the assurance that “the project satisfies all municipal and environmental norms before he gives the green light for cremation activities.”
