The Dorval Historical Society commemorates the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation
A gift to the City of Dorval
The Dorval Historical Society and the City of Dorval unveiled a memorial plaque at Windsor Park, on September 24, 2008, in the presence of many dignitaries including Mayor Edgar Rouleau, City Councillors, as well as Kathleen Laing, daughter of J.W. McConnell, her son David and her grandson Mungo.
The purpose of the ceremony was to highlight the contribution of the J.W. Family Foundation to Dorval’s heritage, as it was in 1969 that the Foundation gave the City of Dorval a vast track of virgin land known today as “Windsor Park”.
Amongst the many achievements of his illustrious career, Mr. McConnell was a Dorval City Councillor in 1920 and 1921.
The Dorval Historical Society’s next conference will take place at the Dorval Cultural Centre, located at 1401 Lakeshore Drive, on October 15, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. The speaker will be Mr. Michel Bélisle, ethnologist and historian. His presentation is entitled “Quand Vaudreuil s’appelait Kinchien” (When Vaudreuil was called Kinchien). Admission is free.
