LEGION LACHINE NEWS

Pick-up darts has started on Tuesday afternoons, starting at 1:30 p.m. Everybody welcome. The Wednesday night dart league has started. If you are interested in playing stop in at the hall or call 514-637-3523 for info.
We have Military Whist every first Monday afternoon of the month. Play starts at 1 p.m. All card players welcome. Make up a table and join in the fun. $5.00 includes prizes and refreshments.

SOUPE MAISON LACHINE
The Soup Maison of Lachine resumed their activities on Tuesday, Sept. 16th. This charitable organization has existed since 1986 and provides help to a growing number of people in need in our community. Since its beginning, thousands of hot meals were served to our recipients and food baskets were distributed. It is open to recipients every Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (October to April).

MEALS ON WHEELS WESTERN LACHINE
Our volunteer numbers have recently dropped due to retirement or poor health. We are seeking more volunteers this fall to prepare meals, drive or deliver meals, or to be part of a clean-up team. SUZUKI FLUTE LESSONS
Suzuki Flute lessons – an experienced, qualified and kids friendly flute teacher is now accepting flute students (Age 4 and up).

WLRC POOL NEWS
WLRC wrapped up another great summer. Special thanks should be given to our Directors, Staff, Volunteers and Members who made this summer such a success. From the Open House to the Closing BBQ and Awards Night and all the events in between the teamwork of everyone contributed to the success.
Here are the results for the WLRC Awards Night. The Club champ awards goes to the girl and boy who accumulated the most points all summer in all events. This is the highest award for anyone in our club and is only achieved by hard work and dedication. This year the girls club champ goes to Sarah Assi and the boys club champ award goes to Sasha Assi.
Congratulations to Mrs. Donna Henchey who was named Mrs. Sun and Mr. Bill Keating who was named Mr. Sun. Our Queen for this year is Caroline Aubry and our King is Luca Menniti. Every year our staff picks one person among them who excelled in many fronts, good attitude, always goes above and beyond their role and is generally a great part of the team. This year our Staff award goes to Miyoko Fulleringer.
Team Awards: What a great season we had, our swim team came in first place in the C division and had a great summer. Here are the swimming awards: 8 and under girls: Haley Pauletto and under boys: Sasha Assi; 9-10 girls: Jillian Pauletto and 9-10 boys: Mathieu Timbro-Leclaire; 11-12 girls: Agnes Viski, 11-12 boys: Sherif Assi, 13-14 girls: Sarah Assi, 13-14 boys: Patrick Petrin, 15+ girls: Miyoko Fulleringer, 15+ boys: Ryan Kelly. Team spirit award goes to Oliver Sisti. Most improved swimmer goes to Veronique. We had a great diving team this year. More divers went to the finals than ever before and we were 4th place in the Alps A division.

Syncro awards: Thanks goes out to all our Syncro people, what a great season, we really liked the closing BBQ show. It was great. Junior: Chloe Rochon, Senior Proficiency: Julia Conway. Most improved was Shawna Pierson, Senior Most improved goes the Olivia Sisti, The Endeavour Award goes to Robin Hemsworth. The Royal Lifesaving Award was awarded to Aura Cella-Cenerini and the Red Cross Swimming Lessons goes to Luca Vargas.
Congratulations to all swimmers, divers and syncro people for your participation this summer. We would also like to thank all those who took part in swimming lessons. We hope everyone had a great summer! See you next year. We will also see you at our Annual General Meeting this fall.

PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT GROUP
Montreal West Island Prostate Cancer Support Group meets at 7:30 PM at the Sarto Desnoyers Community Centre, 1335 Bord du Lac, Dorval on Thursday, September 25th. The Dorval Garden Club will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, Sept. 22 at 7:30 at the Dorval Community Centre, 1335 Lakeshore Rd., Dorval. Reinhardt Klammrodt, owner of Patrick’s Studio in Kirkland will speak on “Putting Your Garden to Bed”. Yearly membership $10; guest fee $3. New members welcome.
EXERCISE CLASSES
AT SUMMERLEA UNITED CHURCH
Classes are starting in September and will be offered three days a week. The course is designed for all fitness levels. Classes are taught as a "circuit"; they improve the cardiovascular system, muscular strength and endurance as well as core strength. Classes end with stretching and a relaxation period.
The fall session schedule: Saturday 8:30-9:45 a.m. (September 13 - November 8), Tuesday 5:00-6:00 p.m. (September 16-November 4) and Thursday 8:00-9:00 p.m. (September 18-November 6). Each session costs $60. If you register for 2 sessions the cost is $110 and 3 sessions cost $150. LAKESIDE ACADEMY
We would like to extend our warmest congratulations to Lakeside Academy students: Arielle de Pagter, Lisa Hanash, Vandana Patel and Amanda Jane Tilson. Their projects will be part of the International Baccalaureate for 2009 publication entitled 50 Excellent Personal Projects. These same 4 projects were sent to Cardiff in the UK as samples for the moderation process last March. Congratulations once again and we wish them the best of luck in their future studies.
A note of interest: Lakeside Academy is being used to film a movie entitled “the Trotsky” an English Canadian project produced by Park Ex Pictures (Bon Cop, Bad Cop). The script written by Jacob Tierney, takes place in the world of students. Lakeside Academy will for a moment be an important character in the story. Filming has already begun and will continue over the weekends of September 20 and 21st, 27th and 28th between 7am and 8pm. What excitement for lakeside!
