“Horsepower” at the Dorval Museum
The exhibition continues until August 31
The exhibition “Horsepower” at the Dorval Museum of Local History and Heritage, illustrating the important role the horse has played in the history of Dorval, continues until August 31.
Return to a time when horses reigned on Dorval’s farmlands, and food, fuel and other commodities were delivered to your doorstep by horse and wagon. Imagine a trip in a horse-drawn stagecoach, from Dorval to Kingston, along the King’s Way, a dirt road we now know as Lakeshore Drive. Breathe in the smell of the leather saddles and harnesses on exhibit in the Museum’s restored stables – once the exclusive property of the members of the Forest and Stream Club. Relive the excitement at the starting gate of the Dorval Jockey Club racetrack where today stands the Pierre-Trudeau International Airport. As well, photos of former Dorval mayor and racehorse owner Sarto Desnoyers, along with his prizewinning horse Dorval are displayed. His daughter, Nina Desnoyers recently visited the museum, and was thrilled and overcome with emotion upon viewing his trophies and memorabilia.
The Dorval Museum of Local History and Heritage, located at 1850 Lakeshore Drive in Dorval, is open from Thursday to Sunday from 1 pm to 5 pm. The entrance is free, and the Museum is accessible to all. Bus 209 brings you to the door.
