LEGION LACHINE NEWS
The Annual Branch Golf Tournament will be held on Aug. 9 at The LaFleur Golf Club. The cost is $55 and includes golf and dinner. Dinner only is $15. Sign-up sheet is on the board. Not many spaces left, so sign up fast.
Don’t forget we have pick-up darts every Wed. afternoon starting at 1:30 p.m.

WLRC POOL NEWS
We have a busy week coming up at our pool. On Monday we will be having watermelon football at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday is our very popular Movie Night, Friday we will be having Fun Day with a BBQ at noon followed by games. On Sat. we will be having our WLRC Swim-A-Thon in the morning.
Don’t forget to sign up for our Members Dinner on Aug. 1st at Topaz Restaurant. Members and friends are welcome; space is limited so sign up early (at the pool office).
Congratulations to our swimmers, divers and syncro people for your hard work and dedication. The Syncro person of the week is Robyn Hensworth. Diver of the week is Leah McCarthy and Swimmer of the week is Jillian Pauletto.

LAKESIDE ACADEMY NEWS
Our Uniform Sale and collection of School Fees will take place on Aug. 19th and 20th. We are in desperate need of volunteers to assist with the Uniform Sale. NEW TIMES FOR THE 173 AND 190 METROBUSES
Bus users will be glad to hear that these Metro buses run all day now and not just in peak hours. Gas prices are high…it’s a great way to reach Lionel Groulx Metro quickly and using your bus transfer, continuing your journey on the Metro….also avoiding searching for parking spaces and paying parking fees. It was reported that a trip on the 173 bus from 48th Ave. and Victoria in Lachine to Lionel Groulx Metro, and a metro ride to Place d’Armes took only 35 minutes. This service is from Monday to Friday. Bus schedules can be picked up at bus stations or info can be obtained by calling 514-288-6287.
GIRL GUIDE NEWS
Guiding in Lachine has concluded another successful year. The adult members met for a BBQ to review the last year and to plan for next year.
Activities for the last year as included many outings and service projects. Visits have made to Upper Canada Village, Quinn Farm, Beaver Lake and Parc Rene Levesque, and of course the usual camping trips to Lac Adair in the Laurentians.
Girls have provided service at all levels. They sung carols to seniors, helped out at craft fairs and bazaars, Made Easter gifts for Meals on Wheels, participated in the Guignolée food drive, and helped clean up the Lachine Lakeshore. In addition we have contributed to World Friendship and sent activity packages to the small country of Dominica.
One of our long time members lost all her possessions in a recent fire and the Guiding ommunity has been pleased to be able to support her. For next year we will be pleased to welcome back Carole Cole and to welcome Linda Rodd as our new Treasurer.
Once again we would like to express our appreciation to all leaders, parents, churches and the City of Lachine for their ongoing support. Registration for 2008/2009 will take place on Wed., Sept. 10th at 6:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Church.

L’OEUVRE SOUPE MAISON
This charitable organization has existed since 1986 and provides help to a growing number of people in need in our community. Since its beginning, thoughs of hot meals have been served to recipients and many food baskets have been distributed. It is open every Tues. and Thurs. from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. to April.
