The Dorval Cultural Centre presents Hyperliens
An exhibition by Graff, a contemporary printmaking centre
The Conseil des arts de Montréal en tournée presents Hyperliens, an exhibition created by Graff, a contemporary printmaking centre, at the Dorval Cultural Centre, from July 11 to August 6, 2008.
The exhibition Hyperliens showcases the dialogue between artists of different generations and levels of experience. To mark the occasion, curators Christiane Desjardins and Madeleine Forcier had invited 12 artists to create, in pairs, a series of original and daring pieces. Thus, six pairs were invited to make prints within a project having a common theme, location, or medium. The only rule was that the subject had to be agreed upon and there had to be a constant exchange throughout the creation process. Some artists already had similar iconographic or technical interests, while others relied more on the contrasts between their research methods.
A sense of cooperation
Three teams composed of Gwenaël Bélanger and Marc Séguin, Annie Conceicao-Rivet and Thomas Corriveau, and Laurent Lamarche and Claude Fortaich worked on their pieces using the same medium; Raymond Lavoie and Catherine Bond, Christiane Desjardins and Denis Farley, Éliane Excoffier and Peter Krausz created distinctive pieces in which their respective language stood out.
The resulting creations highlight the journey, with its many twists and turns, of such an adventure. This exhibition will undoubtedly contribute to the emergence of a critical reflection and of an original language in printmaking. It is imbued in the “Graff spirit,” which encourages and stimulates a sense of cooperation between studio artists and leads to constant challenges.
A dynamic space for creation and research
Graff, a contemporary printmaking centre, better known under the name of Ateliers Graff, is a dynamic space for creation and research geared towards professional artists.
The proliferation of approaches and the diversification of medium, combined with the use of state-of-the-art tools and techniques, have pushed the boundaries of the printmaking field and clearly reflect its vitality. Creating a sense of belonging, inspiring collaborations, and promoting encounters and discussions in an atmosphere conducive to creation are the main objectives that have guided the centre’s choice of activities since its creation in 1966.
This 56th travelling exhibition of the Conseil des arts de Montréal en tournée will continue to tour until January 2009 in various municipal venues on the island of Montreal. For more than 25 years, the Conseil des arts de Montréal en tournée has enabled arts organizations working in the performing arts, visual arts, literature, cinema, design, new media, and new artistic practices to tour their creations to the population at large.
