The City of Dorval launches a petition against overnight flights at the airport
A lot has been said, over the past few weeks, about overnight flights at Montréal-Trudeau airport. To follow-up on this issue, the Council of the City of Dorval wishes to emphasize its position.
The Council of the City of Dorval is categorically opposed, with some exceptions for special circumstances, to flights between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., regardless of the weight or tonnage of the aircraft, or any other operational criterion applied to allow such operations. With the above in mind, the Council of the City of Dorval invites all municipalities and boroughs located near the Montreal-Trudeau airport to join in its efforts to put a stop to overnight take-offs and landings. Consequently, it urges all its residents and those of surrounding areas to sign a petition to that effect available in all Dorval municipal buildings, said petition to be forwarded to the authorities.
The City also asks that all surrounding municipalities and boroughs support its request that a meeting be held with Aéroports de Montréal (ADM) to develop more equitable solutions to noise management at the airport, with a view to achieving a better balance in the sharing of the associated irritants.
It should be noted that, with the blessing of Transport Canada and ADM, the number of overnight flights has increased annually to a point where in 2007, they numbered around 19 000. It should also be noted that 80% of the complaints received by ADM from residents are related to overnight operations.
