A condominium building caught on fire last Wednesday when a rare outburst of fire started on the rooftop.
Lachine condos in flames
Survivors, evacuees and… animals
About a dozen condos in Lachine were ravaged by fire last Wednesday. The unfortunate incident occurred at 3485 Fort Rolland Street.
Firefighters battled with the fires which they classified as code red. Code red means that firemen have to be warned to leave the building. The evacuation was carried out just in time because a part of the building collapsed shortly thereafter.
Fifteen residents were evacuated. No one – not even the animals – suffered any serious injury. Dogs, cats, birds – they were all rescued from the fire and brought to a veterinarian clinic.
Many witnesses at the scene marvelled at the fantastic way the firemen handled the animals with the utmost care.
