Lachine Hospital and McGill University Health Centre: “Population very confident”
Members of the Board of the Dorval-Lachine-LaSalle CSSS on Monday evening unanimously adopted a resolution, which approved, in principle, Lachine Hospital integration’s into the McGill University Health Center (MUHC). Close to 150 people from Lachine and Dorval attended this public meeting.
Marquette Deputy François Ouimet, Lachine Mayor Claude Dauphin, Dorval Mayor Edgar Rouleau, as well as all the municipal councillors were delighted with the news, which they believe will finally assure the development and perpetuity of Lachine Hospital services while it maintains its Francophone character.

“This evening has enabled several officials, opinion leaders, organizations and citizens to ask questions and to solidly support this promising project,” said Deputy François Ouimet. “The responses given last night by the Board assured everyone. The frequent applause and the enthusiasm that reigned in the room constitute substantial proof that the public is on our side. Lachine Hospital has gone through several trials in the last few years. It is time to look towards the future and to remind ourselves that the patient remains our # 1 priority.”

“I’m extremely pleased that Lachine residents are finally assured that their Hospital will continue to offer better quality service on-site and that they don’t have to travel outside their Borough to obtain care, Lachine Mayor Claude Dauphin said. Borough Council adopted a resolution last night supporting Lachine Hospital’s integration into the McGill University Health Center. We are therefore the happiest residents, pleased with the decision of the CSSS to go ahead with the project. Congratulations and thank you to all those who contributed to the favorable outcome of this case.”

“With an increasingly aging population, the residents of Dorval will need more health care”, said Dorval Mayor Edgar Rouleau. This decision will see to it that they receive the highest quality care and will ensure that all Dorval residents will have access to local services. Going ahead with the McGill University Health Center means there’s a sense of urgency to act for the well-being of our residents.”

“The project is a viable solution, staff members are satisfied and confident and are looking towards a new direction. The project will be spread out over several years and this will make Lachine Hospital a true partner of MUHC. This integration will lead to excellent prospects for development from a medical point of view. We’re very fortunate; this project was conceived for the well-being of patients and personnel alike”, explained Doctor Plante, president of the Revival Committee for Lachine Hospital.

“As a staff member, I believe that what the MUHC is proposing is an integration and not simply an affiliation, which is very good. It is therefore in MUHC’s interest to encourage Lachine Hospital to create new medical positions, acquire equipment and provide hospital services proposed with the required medical staff. It will be to everyone’s interest to have adequate representation and to assure themselves that all services can be offered in French”, Jacques Filion pointed out. He is the president of the Lachine Hospital Foundation.

“I was a victim of a stroke last December and received treatments from different institutions of the MUHC network. The services that I received since my hospitalization were extraordinary. From the specialist to the nurse, I could not have asked for a better treatment. Competent professionals gave me a lot of care and attention and they were friendly, able to speak in French without any problem,” added Michel Ménard, Lachine commissioner at the Marguerite-Bourgeoys school board.
