The West Island Chamber of Commerce honoured its best in business June 14 in a ceremony held at Chateau Vaudreuil’s Pavilion sur le Lac.

The big winners of the evening were Pointe Claire company AS Composite, a manufacturing company that manufactures thermoplastic composites, which won Accolades in two categories: Manufacturing (Less than 50 employees) and High Technology, and Groupe Securite C.M. Inc., which took home Accolades for Manufacturing, 50 employees and more and Markets Outside Quebec. The Baie d’Urfe company manufactures hurricane-tested safety windows and exports them all over the world.

Nearly 200 people showed up to see the chamber honour its best. Other winners were: Belmonda Beauty Academy & Distribution (Distribution), Boutique de Mariage Punta Chiara Inc. (Retail Service), Les Services KD (Service), Jitech (New Company), VISIONx Inc. (Small Business, 5 employees or less) Leave Out ViolencE (LOVE) West Island (Non-Profit Organization Working In Social Economy), Maisons Bellevue Inc. (Investment Project) and Becket Players (Exceptional Community Involvement).

Bodhi owner Bhaskar Gosawmi’s Acco-

lade (Young Entrepreneur) was totally unexpected.

“It was out of the blue. I knew who I was up against and I knew there were some exceptional entries,” he said.

Bodhi is basically a one-man operation that works with corporations and their employees on adopting yoga practices into their everyday lives.

“We teach employees how to adopt principles such as breathing, stretching and nutrition to revitalize their physical and mental energies,” he said, adding a business that works with corporations on a regular basis will benefit from the validation an Accolade brings.

“Especially for a business like mine, it meant a lot. It means recognition from the business community and it shows that it’s the right time for the project.”
