Montreal and Quebec will support revitalisation of Notre-Dame Street in Lachine

This announcement was made jointly by Montreal Mayor Gérald Tremblay and Mr. Raymond Bachand, Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Exports and also person in charge for the Montreal region; Mr. Bachand made the announcement on behalf of the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Regions Nathalie Normandeau.

This investment, which is part of the Programme réussir@montréal – commerce (PR@M – Commerce), will be spent for diagnoses and master plans for each of the selected business streets like Notre-Dame Street in Lachine. It will also be spent to enhance the value of businesses on these major roads.

The City of Montreal will invest C$11.6 M to be spread out over four years, to which will be added $11 M to be taken from the $140 million budget to support the Montréal 2025 plan and is the amount allotted to the City by the Quebec government.

Montreal Mayor Gérald Tremblay said that supporting business road networks is an initiative of the administration to promote the quality of life of Montrealers. “This new programme will combine the dynamic character of the business community and the creativity of Montreal designers, all for the collective good”, said the mayor.

Thanks to the PR@M – Commerce programme, development companies and business groups will be called upon to participate jointly with the boroughs to elaborate a development strategy identifying the key factors for revitalising each of the arterial roads. An amount of $40,000.00 is planned for this purpose.

After that, business owners can link their projects to the strategic development of their street. These projects should be achieved in collaboration with a professional designer. The City of Montreal will cover up to 50% of the professional design fees (to a maximum of $4,000.00), and up to 33% of the eligible work for each business owner (to a maximum of $33,000.00). “Montreal’s development is possible through our administration’s measures like the PR@M – Commerce, but it is also possible because of the contributions from business people and creators. By investing in our business arterial road network, we are investing in what makes Montreal residents proud,” Alan DeSousa said in closing.
