Marlene Jennings has increased her support base since the last election. She was re-elected with a majority of 12,430 votes. In 2006, her majority votes totalled 10,850.
The Liberal Party improved its position in Quebec but showed a decrease in voter support in Ontario and British Columbia.
Pleased with her re-election, the Liberal candidate said she was satisfied with the Party’s score. “I’m satisfied”, she said, reiterating her confidence in party leader Stéphane Dion whom she supported during his campaign to take over the party.
For Jennings, Dion remains the man of the hour. She does not question his leadership. “Mr. Dion performed very well, particularly during the second part of his campaign”, she said. “It was that time that people started looking at Stéphane Dion differently, rejecting the image that the Conservatives were promoting. “He’s a man of integrity, of courage; he is not afraid to fight for others, to defend Canadians.”
