Seeking a fifth term, the outgoing MNA for Notre-Dame-de-Grâce–Lachine, Marlene Jennings, accompanied by Nova Scotia deputy Scott Brison made some comments on the Liberal Party programme entitled “A Richer, Fairer and Greener Canada.”

The programme consists of a complete estimate of costs that illustrates the tax responsibilities of the Liberal plan. “The Liberals are spreading their tradition of managing the economy and budget in a healthy way” said Liberal candidate Marlene Jennings, supported by her colleague Scott Brison. Our party knew how to transform an enormous deficit into eight consecutive budget surplus years and we will continue to apply this financial discipline as a priority.” “Our leader Stéphane Dion said that compared to other countries, Canada has numerous advantages for it to face the challenges of the 21st century, thanks to the hard work of Canadians and to the leadership of the previous Liberal governments. They put our country on the right path, reducing its debt burden based on the vigorous health of our economy”, Marlene Jennings added. A new Liberal government will go in the same direction; that is, a healthy and balanced management, the foundation of which will be financial and tax discipline. We are absolutely keen on balancing the budget and this is why all of our programme’s initiatives are within the framework of a prudent tax policy which takes into account a reserve that, if not used, will go towards paying the country’s debts.”

The Green Shift

“The Green Shift constitutes the keystone correction of the Liberal Party’s programme”, said Marlene Jennings. “It’s an innovative project aimed at the future, which will seek to reduce taxes, impose costs for pollution, fight poverty and position Canada among the main leaders of the global economy in the 21st century.” “This responsible fiscal approach in Canada will enable us to impose less taxes on those things that we want to increase such as income, investments and innovation; and to impose higher taxes on things we do not want such as pollution, greenhouse gas emissions and waste. The Green Shift serves as the foundation of programmes that will make the country a richer, fairer and greener Canada today and tomorrow”, Marlene Jennings said as she ended the interview.
